| The Civic Achievement Award is given to a person (or people) in the community who have exemplified the true meaning of civic leadership. The recipient is chosen by the Mayor of Gillespie and his/her identity is kept in utmost secrecy until the winner is announced on Saturday night. A public reception for the winner is held immediately following the announcement. The 2008 recipient of the prestigious award was Alderman Jerry Dolliger, who also serves as a volunteer fireman as well as the 1st Vice President of Gillespie Organizations, Inc. which hosts Black Diamond Days.
